What is ISO?

The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) is a global standards body. It’s voluntary international standards aim to facilitate global trade & promote risk-based management systems.

Implementing ISO is a strategic decision which will impact how the business operates & there are many different ISO standards available depending on your desired outcome from the process. These are broken down into categories such as quality, environmental, security & occupational health & safety to name but a few.

ISO certifications

ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management Systems)

A Quality Management System (QMS) is a formalised system that documents processes, procedures, and responsibilities for achieving quality policies and objectives.

A QMS helps coordinate and direct an organisation’s activities to meet customer and regulatory requirements and improve its effectiveness and efficiency on a continuous basis.

ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)

There is an increased focus on businesses to be environmentally friendly, including proactively managing your carbon footprint & reducing waste.

ISO 14001:2015 provides practical tools to help you improve your environmental performance through more efficient use of resources, gaining a competitive advantage & ensuring stakeholders understand you are aware and committed to minimising your impact on the planet.

Benefits of implementing an environmental management system include compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining or improving your reputation & reduced costs.

ISO 28001 (Security Management Systems)

Supply chain security standards are gaining increased importance across the world.

This standard helps you to establish a comprehensive security risk management plan, which involves HR measures, management of business partners, operational risk, physical security & data security risk assessment and mitigation. This will help you to protect your reputation whilst minimising preventable losses.

ISO 28001:2007 also sets the framework for AEO-S (Safety & Security). You can apply for ISO 28001 if you are not currently eligible to apply for AEO, or use ISO 28001 to prepare for your AEO-S application.

ISO 45001: 2018 (Occupational Health & Safety)

ISO 45001:2018 helps you achieve best practices in Occupational Health & Safety, with the aim of reducing the number of hazards in the workplace.
