What we offer
Complete Project Management – Our project management consultancy services involve providing expert guidance, oversight, and support throughout the lifecycle of a project to ensure it meets its goals in terms of time, cost, scope, and quality. Typically included in our excise warehouse project management consultancy services are an on-site GAP Analysis, drafting all application forms & documented procedures required by HMRC, assistance in signing up to software required by HMRC (e.g. EMCS & ATWD), help with financial guarantees & duty deferment accounts (where required), training, audit preparation and being in attendance for HMRC audits.
Ad-hoc Excise Warehousing Consultancy – We also offer an ad-hoc (short-term consulting) service where required or for those not needing complete project management. This service is provided on an as-needed basis, rather than as part of a long-term or ongoing engagement. We offer a range of Excise Warehouse ad-hoc consultancy services from assisting with ongoing applications & business plans, help and advice with W1’s & W5/W5D’s, provision of Excise Warehouse templates to ISO 9001 standard, on-site GAP analysis and more.
Customs Compliance & Auditing – Ongoing assistance with your Excise Warehouse compliance obligations set out by HMRC. Regular audits to ensure you are abiding by the rules & requirements set out in your Excise Warehouse authorisation(s). A review of your company information, documented procedures, customs processes, security & more.
Training – We currently offer onsite & remote training. We can provide training in customs processes, internal audits, health & safety, security, record keeping and more.
The benefits of applying for an Excise Warehouse
1. Duty Suspension → Better Cash Flow
– You do not need to pay excise duty until the goods leave the warehouse (i.e. are released for consumption or whichever permitted use). This delays cash out‑lay.
– If you have a duty deferment facility, you may also defer payments further under certain conditions.
2. Cost Savings on Re‑Exports
– If goods stored under excise duty suspension are eventually exported (instead of entering the UK market), you avoid paying excise duty altogether on those goods. This can be a significant saving if you operate in international trade.
– Helps avoid “double duty” in scenarios where goods pass through the UK but are destined elsewhere.
3. Flexibility in Operations / Timing
– Enables you to store goods in advance of demand, or ahead of needing full documentation, without having to immediately commit to paying duty.
– Helps manage seasonal peaks, fluctuations in demand, or delays in licensing etc.
4. Reduced Risk of Paying on Unsold or Returned Goods
– If goods do not enter the UK market (e.g. they are returned, destroyed, or re‑exported), you are not liable for duty on them while they were stored under suspension.
5. Operational Efficiencies & Scale
– Better control over inventory, ability to consolidate shipments, plan dispatches etc, under duty suspension means more strategic logistics.
– Efficient handling of compliance (record keeping, movement declarations, etc) under one roof. Vendors can offer services (storage + dispatch) more seamlessly.
6. Competitive / Strategic Advantage
– For businesses in sectors like alcohol, tobacco, fuel, being able to offer lower cost, better cash flow, or better terms because duty payment is deferred can be a competitive differentiator.
– Enables you to respond faster to market opportunities if you have goods already stored and ready to release.
7. Regulatory Security and Compliance
– Lower risk of penalties once you have proper compliance systems in place.
– Having HMRC approval means you operate under known rules, with oversight and audits, which can enhance credibility with partners, clients, and insurers.
