Its been a lively start to 2021 so far. With the UK-EU Trade Agreement now coming into affect, the UK Government releasing guidance on a daily basis & everyone trying desperately to keep up with all the new rules & regulations.

The UK & EU have now released the trade agreement that was finally agreed on the 24th December 2020 between the two parties. In total, the agreement is a mere 1246 pages long and covers details about tariffs, trade, transport & much more.

So after years and extensive discussions, a UK-EU agreement has been done. With around about 2000 pages to sift through, here at SECC we wanted to bring you the main take away’s with regards to Customs, Imports & Exports.

What is GVMS? GVMS stands for the ‘Goods Vehicle Movement Service’. From the 1st January 2021, goods moving into and out of the UK will be subject to new customs controls because the UK has left the EU Customs Union.

In what is now a final dash to the finish line, the UK & Customs world is now getting inundated with Customs news & UK guidance. With news being pumped out on a daily basis it is often difficult to narrow in on the important & relevant information.

On Wednesday 18th December 2020 the UK Government released new guidance for hauliers transporting goods between Great Britain and the EU from 1st January 2021. This new guidance tells you exactly what you need to do from the 1st January 2021.

You need an EORI number to move goods between the UK and non-EU countries. From 1 January 2021 you will need one to move goods between Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and the EU. You will also need one if you move goods to or from Northern Ireland.
