Face masks in the workplace

I guess by now that you have seen the controversy in the news this week about people having to wear face masks in shops and possibly even offices.

Matt Hancock has come out and said right now that it was unlikely that wearing face masks in an office environment would be enforced.

But is that the right decision?

A bit like when the UK Government decided to relax the 2 meter rule to 1 meter, not everybody agreed with this including ourselves. One of the thoughts at the time of relaxing this rule, was that it was on the proviso that face masks would need to be worn more in public places.

To some degree this is happening with public transport, pubs and restaurants etc.

But what about offices and workplaces?

If your business can still operate in a profitable, effective manner and still maintain a 2 meter distance, then you would be crazy to relax that rule within your business for the time being right, especially if it is working and keeping your employees safe.

So surely the same basic rule can be applied to face masks as well?

If employees returning to work or even existing employees, feel more comfortable and safer wearing a mask then we would be crazy not to encourage this. Especially at a time when we are being urged left, right and center to wear a face mask when we go out.

So, if your company can operate with a 2 meter rule, then do it. If wearing face masks allows your company or office to get back to some resemblance or normality, then do it. We also fully appreciate that not everyone can wear a face mask, but there are solutions out there such as visors that can be an alternative option.

You need to weigh the pros and cons of every decision you make right now with regards to COVID19, but there are practical solutions out there that will enable your business to still operate safely. You just need to be sensible about your approach and put the safety of your employees at the forefront of every decision you make-simple right?

If you would like to discuss any of your COVID19 concerns, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us as we are more than happy to help all businesses out there that ask.
