What is GVMS? GVMS stands for the ‘Goods Vehicle Movement Service’. From the 1st January 2021, goods moving into and out of the UK will be subject to new customs controls because the UK has left the EU Customs Union.

Transporting goods between Great Britain and the EU from 1st January 2021
On Wednesday 18th December 2020 the UK Government released new guidance for hauliers transporting goods between Great Britain and the EU from 1st January 2021. This new guidance tells you exactly what you need to do from the 1st January 2021.
If you move goods to or from Northern Ireland
You need an EORI number to move goods between the UK and non-EU countries. From 1 January 2021 you will need one to move goods between Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) and the EU. You will also need one if you move goods to or from Northern Ireland.

Authorised Consignee and Consignor Status
If you’re regularly moving goods using transit procedures, you can apply for authorised consignor or consignee status which will allow you to start or end the movement of goods under the Common Transit Convention or Union Transit at your own premises rather than at a customs office. You can apply for both authorised consignor and consignee status.
